How Can severe Knee Pain Be Treated?

Thank you! My 17 year lexold daughter was running recently (for exercise) and twisted at the knee. She now has MUCH pain when she straightens her leg - right under the knee cap. Ice doesn t seem to reach where the pain is - deep under knee cap. Recommendations? (she s quite athletic - a dancer and runner. She is also very double jointed - fible.)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

While most of the times the pain is caused by strain in the knee. If there is no gross swelling, no deformity and range of movement are normal, she should be given some painkiller like ibuprofen for few days besides the ice packs.

If this does not work or she has any deformity or swelling she should be seen by his doctor for proper assessment and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
